Shegaw’s journey has been a remarkable one. He hails from one of the Beta Israel families and was born in Sudan in 1997.
Growing up in Amrakuba near Gedaref City, he faced adversity early on when his father passed away from Malaria when he was just 10 years old.
Shegaw and his mother, Hareg, clung together as refugees, hoping for a chance to go to Israel on a secret mission.
Unfortunately, their path was fraught with challenges. Two years ago, when war erupted in Sudan, they attempted to flee to Ethiopia.
Along the way, tragedy struck when Hareg was raped by gang members and later passed away. Shegaw continued his journey, arriving in Metemma, the border city of Ethiopia, only to find himself caught in another civil war.
Reluctantly, he joined the rebels, and three months ago, he was wounded, losing his left hand.
Now, he waits in a village in Chilga, hoping for support.
Let’s keep Shegaw in our thoughts and prayers during this arduous journey. Blessings!
